Planning a visit to Barra Honda National Park
Barra Honda is a cave park, and the cave is a separate purchase: the $13.56 or ₡1,130 entry covers the park, trails and lookout, and the Terciopelo cave tour needs a guide from the authorized local guide association, paid separately. SINAC lists a minimum age of 12 for Terciopelo and describes a special tour to la cuevita, a small cave, for children under 13.
Timing is tight. Caves and trails run from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, and 1:00 pm is the last entry. SINAC's page prints no opening days, says the park can close in bad weather, and gives WhatsApp numbers for reservations, so a message before the drive is the way to confirm.
