What this site is

My Guanacaste is a visitor's reference for Costa Rica's Guanacaste province: the protected areas that SINAC publishes a page for, the province's beaches on the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo's 2025 Blue Flag list, and Guanacaste Airport (LIR). It is published by North Coast AI LLC. We are not affiliated with SINAC, ICT or the airport.

How we source facts

Quoted, linked and machine-checked. Every fact on a page sits in a quotation from the agency's or the airport's own website, linked to the page it came from. Our checker re-fetches every source page and confirms each quotation still appears word for word (ignoring only spacing, letter case and quote-mark style); the build refuses to publish a quotation it couldn't find. The last full check ran on October 16, 2026. For the Blue Flag list, each of the 51 Guanacaste rows is matched field by field against ICT's PDF.

Translations are ours. SINAC and ICT publish in Spanish. We keep their words in Spanish and put our English translation under each quote, labeled "Our translation". If the two ever seem to differ, the Spanish is the source.

Our explanations are labeled. Sections marked "Our guide" are written by us from the quotes on the same page. They don't rank parks or beaches and add no facts of their own. The planner's open/closed status and fee totals are our arithmetic on SINAC's printed days, hours and fees; where SINAC prints no days or fee, the planner says so instead of filling a gap.

What we leave out. We don't use social media posts, review sites or news articles as sources. We cover only protected areas with a SINAC page we could read, and we did not write town pages, because we couldn't find official sources with enough town-specific detail.
